I have been asked here lately why I have decided to add essential oils to my repertoire of treatment, so, I've decided to tell the tail.
First, let me give you my background. I am a Pediatric Occupational Therapist who graduated from UAB way back in '93. I first started out treating adults and became specialized in head injury and stroke. I also was a Aquatic Therapist specializing in the two areas mentioned as well as rheumatoid arthritis. After my son was born in 1999, my world as I knew it changed in a way that would lead me to where I am today.
You see, I was terrified of children. Not terrified like they'd eat my flesh or anything, but I was so afraid I'd inadvertently hurt them somehow. After my son was born, however, I saw the light. That light was how fascinating children were and even more fascinating to me became the are of pediatric practice.
So, I read every article and book. I took every class, watched lectures, and DVD's because I was determined to learn everything and be the best OT I could be to my OT kids.
In 2001, I decided to start my own practice because the contract work I was doing at the schools just wasn't the kind of quality treatment I wanted to give my kids. So, was born Dragonfly Pediatric Therapy. It is my baby and I have nurtured the heck out of my baby.
I have always been a huge book nerd, I love reading and learning anything and everything especially about pediatrics. My husband says I'm obsessed and yes, I am, darn it but I can't help myself. I love these kids and want to do the best I can as their OT by golly.
About 5 years ago, I began to hear a buzz about essential oils and all the benefits that went with them. I thought, "Um, can you say HOO-EE?!" I scoffed at it and moved onto other things to study. So, I became Interactive Metronome Therapy certified, Sensory Integration trained, Handwriting Without Tears trained, The Listening Program trained, Reiki Healing certified, Kid Yoga certified, Biofeedback trained, and you know what? I just completed my Aromatherapy Certification because I had a divine intervention after being approached for the 82nd time by someone telling me about the importance of these so called essential oils.
I stand corrected, y'all and I feel like a big dummy not listening so long ago. Essential oils are not hoo-ee at all, not at all. Shame on me! As you can see from my new website, I have seen the light and the light is good.
If you have any questions, want to place an order, or anything else you can think of, I'm here and yes, I have been humbled! ;)
